Outreach Report 2009 – Debbie Fryers and Andrea Gailus

We have had a rewarding year, for helping one another and reaching out..

St. John the Divine continues to support the students and families at Mamquam Elementary School by offering the Breakfast program each weekday morning. A big thank you to all the volunteers who come out each day, and to those who bake fresh muffins for the children. The program runs at no cost to the students. Funds for juice, yogurt and fresh fruit come from community resources, and Debbie Fryers is our able coordinator who keeps it all going.

St. John’s also has a “food cupboard” that provides emergency food supplies to individuals who come to the church requesting help. The bin in the Narthex welcomes the donations, and those donations are also given to the Food Bank for distribution as well.

Pam Tattersfield has been an effective liaison with the Community Christmas Care program for a number of years and reports to Church Committee on the activities of that program.

The lesser known activities with volunteers from our parish include the Open Door Society program for single mothers with Sarah Booth as a volunteer in the nursery program there, and Wendy Booth’s leadership in a Yoga class for the residents of Awakenings. Wendy Eyre-Gray and others offer a monthly service at Hilltop House.

It is impossible to know or report on the many other activities that our parish family participate in within Squamish, and each and every time we reach out in love to others is an act of faith that shows God’s love to all. Many thanks to all who reach out and share the love of Christ.

                                                                                    Blessings always
